Hearing aids come in all shapes and sizes, but how do you know which is right for you? We take many factors into consideration when helping you choose the best hearing aid for you. These include your lifestyle, your hearing needs as determined by testing, Bluetooth connectivity, rechargeability, and so much more.

The “look” of invisible hearing aids, whether custom or instant fit, is often appealing to many, but that look comes at a cost. Because invisible-in-the-canal (IIC) hearing aids are so small, manufacturers are limited in what features can be included. The features often dropped during the design process are Bluetooth connectivity, rechargeability, and the most sophisticated background noise reduction available. And while these features may not be important to some, another downfall of these tiny hearing aids is what is called the occlusion effect. In short, by blocking your ear canal with the device and all its parts, the sensation of being “plugged up” is often present any time the hearing aids are in place. Patients often report a “boomy” or “echoey” sound quality to their own voice because of this and find it unpleasant.

These hearing aids are a marvel of modern technology, and are still a suitable option for select patients, but it is important to consider more than just “the look” when it comes to hearing aids. Most patients have a dynamic life and want their hearing aids to keep up with them, not slow them down or take away natural sound quality. Here at Lemme Audiology, we will work with you to determine what devices will work best with both your lifestyle and your hearing needs – just give us a call to schedule a hearing aid consultation (814) 941-7770.
