Real Ear Measurement is a test that we use to verify that your hearing aids are programmed to the correct prescription for your individual hearing loss. The results of the test shows us how much amplification (volume) you are receiving at each of the different speech frequencies for soft, average and loud sounds and to accurately adjust the hearing aid if needed to be sure that speech sounds are at level that you need to be able to hear speech clearly.
Real Ear Measurements are the gold standard in hearing aid fitting and are part of what Audiology Standards call “Best Practices”. This procedure is necessary to accurately fit hearing aids properly even if your hearing aids are the most or the least sophisticated available. Unfortunately, only approximately 30% of hearing aid providers perform these measurements.
Real Ear Measurements should be performed at your initial hearing aid fitting. They should also be performed if there is a significant change in your hearing which requires a major adjustment of your hearing aids, or if acoustics of your ear canal change which can occur if fit with a new custom earmold of there is some other physical change to your ear canal.
At Lemme Audiology Associates we work to provide the best hearing care for our patients Therefore we follow “Best Practices” and perform Real Ear Measurements at all initial hearing aid fittings and when needed throughout your hearing aid journey.
