If your hearing aids are squealing, they are probably not squealing from delight.  Known as “feedback,” this squealing happens when sound from the hearing aid leaks out of your ear and gets picked up by the microphone of your hearing aid. This will happen when your earmold or dome is not fitting properly.  A good seal from the mold or dome is necessary to prevent sound from escaping and causing that squealing.

So, what are you supposed to do?

First thing first – check to make certain your dome/ear mold is sitting comfortably and securely in your ear. If it doesn’t feel right, an adjustment is going to need made. But that’s not something you do at home. Adjustments can be made to an earmold in any of our three offices. If you use a dome, we can try a different size to see if that takes care of the problem.

Secondly, clean your hearing aids regularly! Wax build up or debris can cause your hearing aids to squeal. Make sure to stop into your preferred Lemme Audiology office for your device’s annual Clean & Check. During these checks, we can get into the nooks and crannies of your hearing aid that you may not be able to get to. We will also make certain your hearing aids are in proper working order.

If you are ever having any issues with your hearing aids or ever have any questions,  we never want you to hesitate to give us a call – we’re here to help!
